Dr. Melvyn Leifert received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree as well as his specialty certification in Orthodontics from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a board-certified orthodontist, a forensic dentist, and is a Clinical Professor of Dental Medicine at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Leifert has been on the orthodontic faculty at Columbia University for over forty-five years and was designated to serve as “Mentor” to the orthodontic residents. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Columbia University Orthodontic Alumni Society in appreciation for his many contributions to the education of multiple generations of orthodontists. He is regarded as an expert diagnostician and has specialized in the interception and treatment of a wide variety of skeletal and dental malocclusions and deformities. Dr. Leifert has lectured and written extensively as well as appeared as an expert witness in numerous malpractice cases. In addition to being an educator, he has also maintained a private practice in Greenwich Village for almost fifty years.

Dr. Melvyn Leifert is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, and a Fellow of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics and the Pierre Fauchard Academy of Dentistry. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Forensic Examiners and is an active member of the following organizations:
